What is the best way to ask for more vacation time and a sign-on bonus for a written job offer I received?

The salary itself is within my range.

There is no "best way". In this economy, take what you can get and be happy. If you ask, you’re likely to have the job offer rescinded and it will go to someone willing to take the job as it is.

Bonus? I haven’t heard that term being thrown around in many moons outside the Military!

You must be really in demand! Is there a shortage in your industry or type of job?

First, you need get in front of the hiring manager and/or HR or possibly the owner.

You can always ask if there is any discretion in the compensation and the vacation time benefit.

It comes down to this, you need to think real hard about what leverage you have.

btw – what exactly do you do? I mean do you have some kind of special skill like "diffusing explosives"!

I would love to be a fly on the wall when you ask for this!
